Spade terminals are for connections you will unplug again: a switch, a lamp, a trailer lead. Lever connectors and wire nuts join wires permanently inside a box.
Insulated spades follow the usual color code: red for 22 to 16 AWG, blue for 16 to 14, yellow for 12 to 10.
If you are not sure which you need, look at the other end of the job. A tab on a switch wants a female spade. Two wires in a ceiling box want a lever connector or a wire nut.
