The size on the pack is the diameter before shrinking. Divide by the ratio to get the smallest it will close to: a 3/8 in tube at 3:1 closes to 1/8 in. Pick a tube that slides over the widest part of the joint and shrinks below the thinnest.
Glue-lined tubing seals out water but stays stiff. Thin 2:1 tubing stays flexible but does not seal. Our heat shrink size chart lists every size we make with both numbers side by side.
Most people need two or three sizes, not twenty. If you are not sure which ones, an assortment box is the cheap way to find out, and you can buy the size you use most on a roll later.
